October is officially here and It’s here to stay, I am DEFINITELY an halloween person, I love the myth, i love the spooky sense, the dark ambience, the spices, the crisp air, the coziness, the intimate feeling that you can only get with a gothic / spooky novel. Don’t get me wrong, I can be a pretty Christmas-y person too but Halloween has my heart.
This year October finds me at the corner of a reading slump. The enthusiasm is there but I’m afraid that Autumn hasn’t fully registered with me. Tired, sleepy and with my defenses low, I keep starting multiple books and being unable to follow through with any of them- those who follow me knows how uncharacteristic that is of me -. So I’ve decided to give myself a bit of a mini reading least: four books that would spice up my reading routine giving myself a bit of an Autumn kick, and i thought it would’ve been fun to share it with you guys. So here it is:
· Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman:
The movie adaptation is one of my all time favorite movies, I’ve got so many good memories tied with it, some of the best times in my life, when i was really happy and carefree and those are the memories you need to cherish the most, so I thought that the best way of doing would be to revive them through the book, adding a bittersweet but warm feeling to this spooky month.
· Dracula by Bram Stoker:
Let’s face it, this is a classic and I couldn’t avoid it. This edition has all my heart and I can’t express how much i love it. I’ve read this book when I was extremely young, our teacher used to make us read one chapter a week and I’ve never really managed to get into it, but i thought that 20 years were enough for me to give it a second chance and now it sits at the top of my TBR.
· Stalking Jack The ripper by Kerri Maniscalco:
I’ve had this book for more than a year, I read the first page and put it down, no real reason, I was probably Just into a slump and I couldn’t be bothered to bring the hard cover around (god I sound so shallow, but my back it’s kind of in a bad shape), but I’m willing to give it a good try this Run to Halloween because what’s the point on living in London if you don’t add at least a Jack the ripper related read to your spooky tbr?!
·Vicious V.E. Schwab:
Ok, listen, it might not be spooky – or maybe it is- but I’ve been dying to read this book so Here it comes. People gives each other gifts on Christmas, I’m gifting myself Vicious as a late birthday and a Samhain present, sue me. This book intrigues me so much, The hype around this series is super high and I’ve yet to meet a person who’s not raving about it, I just need to know about it, Plus, it’s simply gorgeous and Victoria looks like the softest, cutest spooky person I’ve ever encountered on instagram, so yeah ( I kind of want to be her bff, I even own cat ears, it’d be perfect!
What’s on your spooky list?
I’m always looking for more books to read, share ahead!
